The Now of Pooh & Backward!

The final two chapters

Jacob Lee, Gene Lee, and Brian Kim

The Summary

The basic message of “The Now of Pooh” and “Backword” is that mind is a powerful thing. Mind influences one’s path and way. However, it’s never guaranteed that it will lead one to the right direction. Cleverness and Knowledge are powerful but often times lead one to the path of unrighteousness. On the other hand, wisdom and contentment lead one to find its true nature and identity.

Some questions!

Question 1:
Why do you think “Brain” is written in such a way, instead of just saying intelligence?
Question 2:
Do you think that the trouble that the author talks about just generally refers to today’s issues, or is it an issue that is yet to come or that we have yet to realize?
Question 3:
Do you agree that humanity has not benefited from knowledge? If so, to what extent do you agree? If not, why?
Question 4:
Do you think Taoism is still heavily applicable today? In what scenarios or cases?
Question 5:
Do you think that society needs a few Eeyores, Rabbits, and Owls to survive? Or do you think that it will all work out if we were all Poohs, like Taoists want us to be?
Question 6:
When the book talks about “the voice within them”, what do you specifically think this is referring to? A conscious? Common sense?

That thematic analysis!

The Now of Pooh unifies the purpose of the book. It shows that there could be and are issues in the world because of the fact that many of us no longer follow Taoist ideas. It goes back to the whole character of Eeyore, we have knowledge, yet we only use it to complain about things. We complain about the environment, the glaciers melting, but none of these problems would have occurred if Taoist ideas had been followed.
